i guys. I found this thread doing a quick google search on Harrison Mixbus. I read what you guys were saying and thought I would balance the opinions on this thread out a little (so there you go...full transparency).
This is a fantastic sounding piece of software. The mixes I've done on it sound much better than I can get out of logic. With the two projects that I've moved from logic to mixbus, I was able to get a nicer sounding mix in much less time with fewer plugins. I love having the EQ and dynamics easily available in the mixer window. This is a far more intuitive approach than having to open EQ and compression in separate windows. You wouldn't believe how much this can speed up a mix.
As far as the marketing goes, like with all products, you have to separate the language from the fact. I don't know about having a real console in the box, but what ever is in there sounds great. Does it sound as good as an analog Harrison console? F@#$ NO. It also doesn't cost $250,000.
slamthecrank gave the highlights of the early stages of a thread on GearSlutz (the thread is now at 35 pages and the skeptics are dying off there). Noone (myself included) has been able to reproduce the NULLing mixes from any app with mixbus. It isn't possible. The person who did that test screwed something up. There is full latency compensation on the Harrison mixer busses. Ardour (the program that MixBus is built on) doesn't have latency compensation. So when you move beyond the built in busses and have to use Ardour's busses you don't get that feature. Version 1.1 of MixBus, which is still in testing, has full latency compensation throughout. It also has latency compensation for external effects units. I believe this will make it the first program to do this without the use of plugins.
I realize why everyone wants to compare this program to the PropellerHeads proggy, but from my (limited) tests I can tell you that there is no comparison. The pedigree behind MixBus is apparent. The pedigree behind Record (audio toy manufacturer) is also apparent, in a bad way.
So anyway, that was my rant. I strongly encourage everyone to give MixBus a try...actually, I take that back. You guys keep mixing in logic. I don't want your tracks sounding as good as mine.
