一个人问 Protools HD 与 Samplitude 的比较。有三个人回贴,三个人都同时是 Pro Tools 和 Samplitude 的长期用户。

compare protools hd vs samplitude

hello,
i was wondering if anyone had a chance to compare the sound of the two
programs. i currently own samp and sonar i am building an addition and am
going to include space for a studio, i was thinking of making the leap and
investing money in higher end gear, better pre's and mic's and coverters
ect...
i was considering protools hd , though the cash outlay for something
that does not directly effect the sound concerns me. especialy in the ever
changing world of digital recording. i use samp because to my ears it sounds
the best.
i have heard there are a lot of people who are dissatisfied w/ the
sound of protools mix, what about hd? sound for me is the most important
element!
i was pretty much set on dropping the cash on protools, yet upon
further research especialy on digi's site all the examples that i heard of
protools more or less suck, they sound brittle, high ended, and two
dimensional, is this the norm? i mean i thought that sonar pretty much
sucked sound wise compared to samp.
PLEASE! this is very important, does protools really sound that bad or
are those people just hacks?
i would much rather drop my dough on good pre's and monitors and
what-not than sink $20,000.00 into a format that i don't think sounds good.
i realize that protools could probably help me w/ the business, but the only
reason i do this is for the SOUNDZ! i cannot afford to get a seperate mixer
just because protools summing bus sucks. it seems that samplitudes mixer is
fine, what goes in comes out. comments?
my problem is that i live on maui and it is very hard to hear different
stuff here.
i have a cranesong spider on the way, there is a 4 month wait so i am
researching this to death.
questions-
1) how do they compare sound wise?
2) is it possible to effectively use external effects w/ samp
3) is samplitude stable enough on a PC to rely on it as a tracking medium
4) will samp 7 have GOOD support for the UAD and TC powercore cards
(delay compensation, ect..)
5) do vst and direct  effects compare w/ tdm based effects
6) is a native based system NOW able to compete w/ a tdm system. (track
counts, effects ect..)
7) if the answer to the above is yes, what is the best configuration for
samp (dual athlon, p4, single proccessor?)
8) will the proposed mackie controller
support work in REAL TIME?
9) most important are folks out there now using samp. in professional
tracking and mixing situations, and how is it working out.

thank you so much for any insight, joe

trust your ears.

ANYTHING Profools (in my experience) sounds 'grainy' and 'squooshy'.
We get SO MUCH more bang-for-the-buck with Samplitude that it's not funny.

I'd like to second that - i've had  2 years plus on a PT24 mix system.
After hearing Samp I was blown away sonically.

we have both p-tools hd, and samp (customer wants protools to be hip,
i usually finish editing e.t.c. alone in samp and then put it back to pt
when the customer is in the house)
we use p-tools "underneath" logic coz pt handling is a nightmare
(such as: cant open two projects at the same time, short cut mess untill
you have real access editing multiple files e.t.c.)
we tried all kind of converters `n stuff and the conclusion was/is
buy good preamps to reinforce the da converters, and different ones not
all the same, we have focusrite for vocals bass (everything that needs
warmth)and a old neve 8108 console in general because we listen and dont
look.p tools hd is a pounding converter (much power)but still playing
back over f rite e.t.c. adds the real sound.....there is also a digital
mackie in our studio pretty need but i think i can hear the little
squares pixels bytes or however you want to call it.....
just a opinion
cheers
