Note: this is no official release. The driver will install as 2.63, but
the files' version is not updated.
Changes:
- Support for power management (1)
- Improved callback routines (2)
- Disconnect mode (3)
- Error detection improved (I/O box)
(1) When testing the driver I remembered why we had been given Power
Management a very low priority for so long. Because it sucks. Just to
give you two examples: when I put my Dell 8100 into Standby, chances are
50/50 that it wakes up with a wrong screen resolution. To set it back I
have to do a cold boot and change the screen resolution to a higher
value. On my Asus P4C800, standby and resume crash both my PS/2 mouse
and keyboard. I have to pull power to get them back working and to work
with Windows at all! And yes, all the time I was reading in computer
magazines, that many motherboards have problems with the various standby
modes. Go figure...
(2) This improvement does only relate to using more than one card. We
have found a way to get rid of stutter effects, when the second card
uses the same PCI slot as another device, like LAN or USB. It was
reported very seldomly.
(3) Disconnect mode allows to stop communication between CardBus/PCI
card and I/O box. This generates some interesting application examples,
like stand-alone operation of the I/O box. Set up the I/O box as
8-channel ADAT converter, use TotalMix for a submix on headphone and
SPDIF output. Or use the 8 analog ins to any number of analog outs as
analog submixer
- whatever you like that does NOT need the computer with recording or
playback. Engage Disconnect, then pull the Firewire cable. The unit will
continue operation, provided it is still powered by an external power
supply (of course).
For Disconnect mode to work properly, we have reworked the Error
detection. This is now 100% reliable. Pull the FW cable, plug it back -
the unit will always 'Connect' (formerly Lock) properly without the need
to reboot.
The former >Hardware State< display with Error, Detected and Locked
has been changed to >I/O Box< with Error, Detected, Connected and
Disconnected. We hope that this makes the states more clear.
