Yeh, ModernSeventh is really good. I have a UAD card, but recentlybought a laptop and needed the 1176 sound for some (many) projects.
I made a bunch of presets for the ModernSeventh that corresponded tothe UAD card quite closely. So close in fact that in a mix I couldn'ttell a difference. In fact even soloing the instrument it's really hardto distinguish a difference. The settings on the dials are a littledifferent

Yes, I tried the Antress older versions a few years back and they didnot sound or behave like the UAD versions and the metering response wasway off as well. I was quite unimpressed to say the least. OTOH, I wasquite shocked to see how eerily close these latest Antress emulations(1176, Fairchild 670, Pultec EQ) come to that of the UAD versions andthey are free, use little native CPU and have no plugin latency!
Also, I have to give Antress credit after all the flak he got from hisoriginal emu's looking just like the UAD versions and rightfully so(photoshopped GUI ripoffs), his latest emu's have a distinct GUIcharacter of their own while still retainng the full functionality ofthe original hardware.

I have just tried that new Antress' 1176LN compressor and it sounds really great. That man has done another major step in his vst career. You should try it too, it is seriously good stuff.

i think that it's really really similar to the uad software version... ... at least as similar as waves 1176 is to uad 1176...

Says the guy who doesn't have any UAD plugins in the most used list!
As far as you get what you pay for in the plugins world thats where Idisagree with you. I'm happy you supported those companies, but itdoesn't make what I perceive as good any less valuable. You can usethose payware plugins to record Lil Wayne's next two albums, it doesn'tmake them any more useful than the next plugin on the block. Its howYOU use them.
Case in point, I can use the JS FX FairlyChildish plugin that comeswith Reaper and have people ask me if thats the real thing. Why?Because I know how to use the plugin to get that Fairchild grab andpump that people are obsessed with.
Considering that you and I both wouldn't list a UAD plugin as our preferred go to whatever, I don't see why what Antressis offering is not a viable choice, considering some people don't havea couple grand to throw at plugins whenever the moon is full.
I can start a whole new thread with some live drums I'll track upstairsand run it through the analoger and the fire thingy from Antress and see what people think about it.
See if its worth the 10 seconds or so on the internet to download all those plugins, which by the way are free.
I've bought plugins too but I am CONSTANTLY impressed by the antress stuff that has color, impressive compression action and flexibility, moreso than I am by 400 dollar plugins that sound like nothing ishappening when you have em compressing a vocal. Big whoop. If I want togo nuts, I would just buy a copy of Nebula but then again I haveReaVerb which loads impulses just fine. And once Colortone Pro comesout Native I'm on it like fratboys on kegs.
Then again, I'm more about owning hardware that does the damn thing than buying plugins that sound like well......
