What's "Time Warp",and how to use? (phan)
Here is one example among many others.
Say you play a concert guitar live.
You record the guitar directly in Cubase without thinking of bars, time signature or tempo.
You just start Cubase as a recorder and stop it when you have finished playing your guitar.
Lets say you are a good musician:
So you now have a piece of music that is exactly how you wanted it, with all kind of smooth tempo fluctuations, rubatos and so on and so on.
Now you want to add other instruments to your guitar: a flute for example.
Of course if you can play the flute as good as you play guitar, then you can play along the guitar track like in the old days with a multitrack recorder.
But if you are not able to play the flute as good as the guitar you maybe want to use midi.
At this point you need to get some structure in your piece.
So the problem is now to get Cubase matching the structure of your freely played guitar piece.
This is exactly what the Time Warp tool can do and help you in a very easy way to match the tempo you have originally played with all the fine variations you made.
Her a very short explanation as you didnt want to know how it works:
With the Time Warp tool you can visually see your wave.
Under the wave you see a grafik tempo grid that you can define.
The best of all is: you can move any of these Tempo grid points (the wave stays where it is) to what ever place of your wave you want.
So if you say this part of my wave hast to be the third beat of the fourth bar, you just move the tempo grid point to that place of your wave.
Cubase then calculate for you what tempo it has to be.
It couldnt be easier ;-)
After having matched all the tempo of your guitar then you can add any midi track and these tracks will now play with the same wonderful tempo you have on you first guitar take.
